Membership in one or
more of
ASPET's
Divisions- Division membership is a benefit of ASPET
membership and there is no additional charge to belong to a
division. It is highly recommended that you join a
division so that you can take full advantage of Society
participation. Joining a Division allows you to
participate in creating the scientific program for the annual
meeting, network with people in your field at mixers and
divisional programs, and receive special notices and newsletters
about items and activities of interest in your field. Be
sure to pick a division!

Categories of ASPET Membership
Regular Members
Any qualified investigator who has
conducted and published a meritorious original investigation in pharmacology shall be
eligible for membership in the Society. An individual who holds an earned doctoral
degree (Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent) is considered a qualified investigator. (Exceptions
may be made for someone who does not meet the degree requirement but who has made major
original research contributions to pharmacology.) Dues
for regular members of 2008 are $140.00. Applicants for
Regular membership must be sponsored by two (2) Regular or
Retired ASPET members. Regular member benefits include:
- Reduced page charges to publish in
ASPET journals.
- Half-price color fees to publish
color figures in ASPET journals.
- Free full-text access to all five
online ASPET journals, including all back issues.
- Free subscription to Molecular
Interventions (print) and The Pharmacologist
(online).
- Reduced subscription rates for
ASPET print journals.
- Reduced registration fees for
ASPET meetings (include EB).
- Sponsorship of papers (their own
or a non-member's) at the ASPET meeting.
- Sponsor individuals for membership in ASPET.
- Best Abstract Awards for young
scientists at the ASPET meeting.
- Free listing in the FASEB online
directory.
- Membership in multiple ASPET
Divisions for no additional dues.
Affiliate Members
Any qualified person who is engaged
in the study of problems in pharmacology but does not meet the requirements for Regular
Membership may be eligible for Affiliate Membership, which shall be nonvoting. Affiliate
members may later be proposed for Regular Membership, upon meeting the requirements.
Affiliate Members include representatives in the following careers: faculty members who
have made their contribution in teaching; productive research team members who have not
published a meritorious original publication; administrators in government, industry,
universities, or other organizations who do not have sufficient independent research.
Dues for Affiliate Members for 2008 are $105. Applicants for
Affiliate membership must be sponsored by one (1) Regular
or Retired ASPET member. Affiliate member benefits include
all of the benefits of Regular Members except they may:
- Sponsor candidates for Student
membership only.
- Not sponsor a paper for a
non-member at a Society meeting (but they may sponsor their
own).
- Not vote in Society elections.
- Not hold an elected office in the
Society.
Student Members
Graduate Student Members
Persons who are enrolled in
graduate, or professional degree programs, and who have an interest in
pharmacology, are eligible for Student membership, which shall be non-voting.
Student members may be proposed later for regular membership or affiliate membership
upon meeting the requirements for that membership category. Upon completion of
their research doctoral degree, applicants are normally eligible for regular membership
but may remain in the Student Member category for no more than two (2) years.
The first year of student membership is free. In subsequent
years, students pay dues that are one-quarter the amount of
Regular Member dues. For 2009, student dues will be $30.
Undergraduate student members do not pay dues. Applicants
for Student membership must be sponsored by one (1) Regular,
Affiliate or Retired ASPET member.
Undergraduate Student Members
Persons who are enrolled in undergraduate degree programs
and who have
an interest in pharmacology, are eligible for Undergraduate
Student membership, which shall be non-voting.
Undergraduate student members do not pay dues. Applicants
for Undergraduate Student membership may be sponsored by
an ASPET Regular, Affiliate, or Retired member or by their
department chair or ASPET SURF Program Director.
Student members have all the benefits
of Regular Members except they:
- Pay no dues their first year
(Undergraduate student members pay no dues and get
the first year as a graduate student free).
- Pay no more than 25% of Regular Member
dues in subsequent years.
- Must have their papers sponsored
at the ASPET meeting sponsored by a Regular Member.
- May not vote in Society elections.
- May not hold an elected office in
the Society.
Retired Members
A Regular or Affiliate member may
qualify for Retired status in ASPET if they have been a member
of ASPET for 30 years or have retired because of disability.
Members granted Retired status pay no dues but retain all of the
privileges of regular membership.
Semi-Retired Members
A Regular or Affiliate member who does
not meet the criteria for Retired Membership, but who has been a
member for at least 20 years and has retired from his/her active
career, may apply for Semi-retired status. Members granted
Semi-Retired status pay the same level of dues as students until
they reach the point of 30 years membership in ASPET, at which
time they are automatically granted Retired status.
Semi-Retired members receive all the same benefits as Regular
Members.
Members Residing in Developing
Countries
To support qualified pharmacologists, scientists, and
students living in resource-restricted areas of the world and to
encourage international participation in ASPET and our programs,
we offfer reduced membership dues to residents of developing
countries. These members receive all the same benefits as
Regular, Affiliate or Student members; however all journal
access is electronic-only, and they do not receive printed
copies of Molecular Interventions (online only).
Qualified members must request to pay the reduced dues
rate if they reside in one of the following countries:
