The Senate Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations Subcommittee released a report, “Under Threat: Sequestration’s Impact on Nondefense Jobs and Services” that details sequestration’s impact on programs within the subcommittee’s jurisdiction, including the NIH. The report also includes a recent OMB estimate that sequestration’s $2.4 billion cut to NIH’s overall budget would mean approximately 700 fewer research grants than in FY 2012. Additionally, the report details the cuts to individual institutes and centers. State-specific analyses of sequestration’s consequences and details of the cuts to individual NIH institutes and centers are included in the report as well.
