Molecular Pharmacology - September 2001 Report
Prepared by Paul Sternweis, Division chair

Division Activities for Year:

A. Annual Meeting Programming:  At the annual meeting in Orlando, the division sponsored the following programming:

GPCR colloquium, which was very well attended.

Burroughs Welcome Fund lecture

Symposium: Guanylin peptides and cGMP Signaling Mechanisms

Symposium: G protein Regulation and Endothelial Function

Symposium: Progress in Esterases: from molecules to functions

Symposium: Capacitive Calcium Entry

A symposium on RGS function was developed for divisional programming

B. Division Awards:

Graduate Student Best Paper awards were judged in coordination with other divisions. The "Best Paper" posters were displayed at the division mixer and the awards presented. The division is also instituting postdoctoral awards in 2002 and the application form has been published. Winners will participate in divisional programming.

C. Nominations for Officers:

The division has an excellent slate of nominees who have agreed to run for divisional office (year 2003-4). The three nominees for division chair are Drs. David Manning, James Garrison and Jim Putney. The two nominees for Secretary/treasurer are Drs. Kathryn Meier and T.J. Murphy.

D. Non-ASPET meetings supported/sponsored by Division:

Two meetings were approved for divisional financial support in 2001: Molecular Pharmacology Gordon Conference and The Great Lakes GPCR meeting. Our budget for 2002 increases potential support in this category.

E. Web-based activities:

Our new web site is up and running and temporarily located at http://flapweb.com/aspet.  We are currently sponsoring a logo contest and we also encourage members to submit interesting pictures and graphics for "picture of the month"

Financial Report:

The proposed divisional budget for 2002 is attached.
