ASPET Statement on Executive Order Addresses Implications for Members, Biomedical Research Community

On January 27, 2017, the White House issued an executive order limiting immigrant and non-immigrant visa holders from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Somalia, Libya and Yemen from entering or leaving and returning to the United States for 90 days. ASPET has responded with a statement asserting the concerns and the negative implications this policy will have on the biomedical research community. “The progress of science and biomedical research in the US has always benefitted from international collaboration and the free exchange of ideas. The United States is the leader in science innovation because of our belief in these principles, and it is in our national best interest to approach travel and immigration policies in a balanced way that protects our security and allows for the advancement of scientific discovery,” said Dr. David Sibley, ASPET President.
