Omnibus spending bill passes both chambers; POTUS signs into law
President Obama on Friday, December 18th, signed a $1.1 trillion funding bill that will keep the federal government running until Sept. 30, 2016. Earlier on Friday, the House of Representatives passed the spending package with a vote of 316-113. A total of 150 Republicans joined with 166 Democrats to vote yes, while 95 Republicans and 18 Democrats voted no; the Senate approved the measure by a vote of 65-33.
ASPET is delighted to report that the omnibus includes increased funding for all of the federal science agencies including:
- $2 billion increase for NIH
- $119 million increase for NSF
- $279 million increase for DOE SC
- $41.8 million increase for Veterans Medical and Prosthetic Research
- $25 million increase for the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (plus a small bump for the Agriculture Research Service)
