ASPET Joins Biomedical Research Community in Applauding Proposed Increase in NIH Budget

June 20, 2016

The Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) applauds a proposed $2 billion increase for the National Institutes of Health (NIH). On June 7, the Senate Labor, Health and Human Services Appropriations Subcommittee approved a bipartisan spending bill that would provide NIH with $34 billion in fiscal year (FY) 2017, $2 billion above FY 2016.

On behalf of 30 member societies and 125,000 researchers in biological and biomedical science, FASEB expresses its appreciation to the subcommittee Chairman, Senator Roy Blunt, and its Ranking Member, Senator Patty Murray.

"Biomedical research is the key to medical innovation," said FASEB President Parker Antin, PhD. "We encourage the House to follow the Senate’s lead in making increased funding for research a bipartisan priority."
