Dear ASPET members,

It was with heavy hearts that we recently announced the difficult but necessary decision to cancel Experimental Biology (EB) 2020 set to take place April 4–7 in San Diego, California. From a historical perspective, the last time an ASPET Annual Meeting was cancelled was during World War II (1943-1945), so this represents a significant landmark. ASPET and our partners in the EB meeting (AAA, ASIP, ASBMB and APS) are not alone in having to make such a decision; many scientific meetings, including the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics and Society of Toxicology meetings, have been cancelled and/or postponed across the globe resulting in an unprecedented loss to both pharmacology and the larger scientific community.

We know how much the ASPET Annual Meeting means to everyone, and we and the other EB Societies did not make this decision in haste. The health and safety of everyone involved in the meeting was our top priority. We want to express our sincere thanks to the entire ASPET community, our EB partners, the ASPET Program Committee, the ASPET staff, our sponsors, exhibitors, vendors, volunteer members, symposium chairs, speakers, poster presenters, and all our attendees who dedicated so much time and effort for over a year preparing for this meeting. We truly share everyone’s disappointment in the meeting cancellation. In addition, we are aware of the impact of the pandemic on our members both at work (higher education institutions closing, adapting to remote teaching) and at home (schools and churches closing and events cancelled). Such a significant disruption to daily life will affect us all, and our thoughts are with all our members at this time. Please stay safe.

Finally, we hope you will plan to attend the ASPET Annual Meeting at EB 2021 scheduled for May 1-4, 2021, in Indianapolis, Indiana, where we look forward to seeing all of our friends and colleagues and exploring the latest advances in pharmacology.
