    The Scientific Community of Philadelphia lost a loyal member on August 13 with the passing of Carmine Paul Bianchi, Ph.D., age 86, emeritus professor and former chairman of phamacology at the Thomas Jefferson University College of Medicine.

    Toshio Narahashi, widely considered one of the founding fathers of neurotoxicology and a leader in cellular neuropharmacology, died at his Chicago home on April 21, 2013, of complications associated with colon cancer. He was 86.

    Avram Goldstein, 92, an emeritus professor of pharmacology at the Stanford University School of Medicine and one of the discoverers of endorphins in the late 1970s, died June 1 after a long decline.
