Bipartisan Policy Center Releases Recommendations with FDA Reforms

July 29, 2015

The Bipartisan Policy Center has released a new report with recommendations designed to spur innovation by reforming FDA policies with several proposed reforms aligned closely with the 21st Century Cures legislation, Inside Health Policy reports.

The report acknowledges the need for more robust resources at NIH and FDA, but does not make a formal recommendation about funding. The authors hope the report will aid the Senate HELP Committee in their deliberations on their "Innovations" legislation.

Senate HELP Chairman Lamar Alexander has said that expects the committee to finish its work between Thanksgiving and the end of the calendar year, and to enact the legislation early in the next session. His House counterpart, Chairman Fred Upton, is pushing to have the 21st Century Cures Initiative enacted before the end of this year.
