Neha Mishra is The Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics Highlighted Trainee Author for the February 2024 issue. Mishra is a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus. The JPET article that earner her the selection as a Highlighted Trainee Author is titled “Nitrogen Mustard-Induced Ex Vivo Human Cornea Injury Model and Therapeutic Intervention by Dexamethasone” and is available at https://doi.org/10.1124/jpet.123.001760.

Mishra’s research focuses on ocular and dermal vesicant-induced toxicities, as well as cancer prevention using natural compounds and other therapeutics. For Mishra, the development of therapeutic interventions by drug repurposing for vesicating chemical agent-induced corneal injures is of upmost importance. In her most recent research, she and her team developed a treatment regimen of dexamethasone administration post mustard exposure, with a window of administration of 2 h post exposure and three times daily administration thereafter in our in vivo rabbit ocular injury model. They validated this treatment regimen in ex vivo human corneal cultures. These studies with dexamethasone for treatment of mustard vesicant induced corneal injuries have been ongoing.
