Nicolò Milani is the Drug Metabolism and Disposition Highlighted Trainee Author for the March 2023 issue. He is a Senior Scientist in Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development at Hoffmann-La Roche in Basel. The DMD article that earned his selection as a Highlighted Trainee Author is titled “Contribution of UGT enzymes to human drug metabolism stereoselectivity: a case study of medetomidine, RO5263397, propranolol and testosterone,” and is available here: https://doi.org/10.1124/dmd.122.001024.

Nicolò received his PhD at the University of Perugia (Italy) in Theoretical Chemistry and Computational Modeling under the tutelage of Prof. Gabriele Cruciani. His thesis research was mostly focused on the in silico prediction of Aldehyde Oxidase metabolism. During an internship at Roche under the supervision of Dr. Stephen Fowler, he worked on UGT enzymology, developing a new experimental method to detect sensitive UGT2B10 substrates, published in DMD in 2020 (https://doi.org/10.1124/dmd.119.089482). He spent 2.5-years as a Postdoctoral Scientist at Roche working on the experimental and the in silico Quantitative Systems Pharmacology of Liver and Gut-Liver Organ-on-a-Chip systems for DMPK applications, resulting in two publications in Lab on a Chip in 2022.

As Senior Scientist, Nicolò now works in Computational Toxicology and Safety developing new predictive models in cheminformatics and applying mathematical modeling for the prediction of DMPK parameters from advanced in vitro systems (e.g. Organ-on-a-Chip).

In his spare time, he enjoys swimming and mountain biking. He also enjoys playing guitar.
