Sandhya Subash, PhD, is the Drug Metabolism and Disposition Highlighted Trainee Author for the October 2023 issue. Currently, Dr. Subash is working as a postdoctoral fellow at the Washington State University, College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. The highlighted manuscript listed below is from her post-doctoral research at Washington State University under the mentorship of Dr. Bhagwat Prasad. The DMD article that earned her selection as a Highlighted Trainee Author is titled “Dissecting Parameters Contributing to the Underprediction of Aldehyde Oxidase-Mediated Metabolic Clearance of Drugs” and is available at https://doi.org/10.1124/dmd.123.001379.

Dr. Subash's research is primarily focused on leveraging targeted proteomics to investigate variations in non-CYP enzyme expression across different species and individuals. She is also committed to utilizing proteomics-informed physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) models to tackle the complex challenges associated with extrapolating in vitro findings to in vivo situations, particularly in predicting drug clearance and the contribution of non-CYP enzymes.

The expected impact of Dr. Subash's work is to advance our understanding of the intricate mechanisms involved and bridge existing knowledge gaps in determining the fraction metabolized, and prediction of potential drug interactions related to non-CYP enzymes. Her research primarily centers on designing and optimizing in vitro methodologies to overcome the challenges encountered in vitro to in vivo extrapolation (IVIVE) of novel drug candidates.

Beyond her scientific pursuits, Sandhya is an avid reader who enjoys traveling and exploring new places.
