A special section entitled “Recent Trends in the Pharmacology of Cardiovascular Diseases” is being planned for publication in the February 2025 issue of The Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics.

Cardiovascular diseases are the leading causes of worldwide mortality and morbidity. Pharmacological research has contributed much to attacking diseases through the development of drugs such as calcium antagonist, inhibitors of renin-angiotensin aldosterone system and statins. However, further efforts towards developing better drugs and targeting unmet medical needs are still urgently needed.

This special issue will broadly cover original research and mini-review articles on the pharmacology of cardiovascular diseases including hypertension, atherosclerosis, heart failure, cardiac arrhythmia and pulmonary hypertension. The latest research on the pharmacology of the renin angiotensin aldosterone system, renal control of blood pressure, central nervous control of blood pressure, ion channels, contraction physiology, redox biology, nitric oxide, diabetic complications, body fluid retention and drug repositioning are highly encouraged.

Article proposals, including the title, abstract, significance statement and full author information, should be submitted as a pre-submission inquiry to The Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics. These proposals should be sent to the special section guest editors, Drs. Tetsuo Nakata and/or Hideyuki Yamawaki, for approval before submission of the full article.

The submission deadline is March 15, 2024 and all submissions must refer to the journal’s Instruction to Authors. There are no submission fees or page charges for publishing in this special issue, and accepted manuscripts will be published immediately online.
