Beatriz Calle is the Drug Metabolism and Disposition Highlighted Trainee Author for the July 2024 issue. Calle is a PhD student at Imperial College London and the Francis Crick Institute.

The DMD article that earned her the selection as a Highlighted Trainee Author is titled “The Role of Intramolecular Reactions and Chemical Degradation in the Apparent Biotransformation Pathways of a Series of SYK Inhibitors” and is available at https://dmd.aspetjournals.org/content/52/7/626.

Calle’s goal is to continue pursuing a career in Oncology, particularly in the more translational aspects of cancer research. Her research article demonstrates the potential for intramolecular reactions and chemical degradation to give the appearance of complex metabolism which arises from a single primary route of metabolism. These insights improve the current understanding of the metabolism of this series of anticancer drugs.
