Nina Beltran is The Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics Highlighted Trainee Author for the October 2024 issue. Beltran is a fifth-year PhD candidate at the University of Texas at El Paso.

The JPET article that earned her the selection as a Highlighted Trainee Author is titled “The Effects of Eating a Traditional High Fat/High Carbohydrate or a Ketogenic Diet on Sensitivity of Female Rats to Morphine” and is available at https://doi.org/10.1124/jpet.124.002188.

Beltran is motivated by her passion to investigate factors that can impact the therapeutic and adverse effects of medications and recreational substances. She hopes her research will impact the field of pharmacology by expanding our current knowledge of how dietary manipulations may modulate different aspects of morphine sensitivity in ways that may be relevant for chronic pain management and opioid use disorder.
