IDEA Task Force

ASPET has created an Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) Task Force which will lead our efforts to identify and dismantle barriers to full participation and develop strategies to embrace and leverage diversity and create a more equitable and inclusive society. Areas of focus will include:

  • Increasing diversity of the membership and engaging next generation and diverse members
  • Cultivating a diverse pipeline for leadership positions
  • Integrating IDEA into our strategic plan, and ensuring our programs, committees, and speakers reflect the diversity of the society
  • Reviewing policies, practices, and procedures with an equity lens
  • Providing resources and programming on IDEA for our members

Mentoring Network

The ASPET Mentoring Network is a professional development program for young scientists. The goals include developing the skills to succeed scientifically, professionally, and psychologically, including discussions about experiences and pressures faced by groups that are underrepresented in the sciences.

Dolores C. Shockley Poster Awards

The Dolores C. Shockley Poster Awards were established by ASPET in 2010 to honor Dr. Dolores C. Shockley, the first African-American woman to earn a PhD in pharmacology and the first to be appointed to chair a pharmacology department in the U.S.

The National Research Mentoring Network (NRMN) connects highly skilled mentors with diverse mentees, ranging from undergraduate students to early-career faculty, and facilitates long-term, culturally responsive interactions between them.
