Laura de Jong is the Drug Metabolism and Disposition Highlighted Trainee Author for the December 2024 issue. De Jong is a fourth-year PhD student at the Leiden Academic Center for Drug Research in the Netherlands.

The DMD article that earned her the selection as a Highlighted Trainee Author is titled “CYP P450 and non-CYP P450 Drug Metabolizing Enzyme Families Exhibit Differential Sensitivities towards Proinflammatory Cytokine Modulation” and is available at https://doi.org/10.1124/dmd.124.001867.

De Jong was particularly drawn to the field of drug metabolism because it combines fundamental biology with real-world applications, ultimately aiming to improve patient outcomes. Her research highlights the varying sensitivities of drug metabolizing enzymes to inflammatory cytokines. She hopes her work will lead to a more nuanced understanding of drug metabolism in patients with inflammation or infection, enabling better predictions of drug pharmacokinetics in these patient groups.
