Supporting Our Scientists

Since January 2025, actions by the federal government to cut and delay funding for science have resulted in slashed research budgets, delayed grant funds, job losses, and other financial hardship for ASPET members.

As your professional home for pharmacology, ASPET is advocating—and acting—for you.  Here are the actions we’ve taken to support you through the funding crisis:

Doubled the amount of travel grants available for the 2026 Annual Meeting.

ASPET will offer $200,000 in travel awards, double the amount we usually offer.

Expanded access to travel grants.

ASPET’s travel awards are typically available only to students and early-career scientists. In 2026, all members who are impacted by the funding crisis will be eligible to apply for new travel awards to attend the ASPET Annual Meeting.

Froze membership dues.

Member dues for 2026 will remain at 2025 rates. By keeping dues frozen, we're ensuring that membership stays accessible while continuing to provide the resources, connections, and opportunities our members value.

Joined sister scientific societies to launch the Americans for Medical Research advocacy campaign.

ASPET is participating in a campaign to educate the public and policymakers about the vital role played by NIH. The non-partisan campaign, organized by Research!America, has completed extensive public opinion research and tested messaging in order to develop compelling talking points. The campaign will promote scientists and their important work in the face of continued funding cuts.

Created an advocacy toolkit.

We created easy-to-use tools that help you communicate with your elected officials or write an op-ed for your local newspaper.

Spoke out against budget cuts.

As your voice on Capitol Hill, ASPET develops position statements, comments on proposed nominations and legislation, and keeps you up to date on policy developments that affect you.

These advocacy, outreach, membership, and education efforts support our community during this critical time for the field. Be sure that your ASPET membership is up to date so that you can continue to receive news and updates, participate in our programs, and join us in urging Congress to protect funding for research.
