ASPET Statement on Dobbs v. Jackson

July 01, 2022

The American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET) is very concerned about the detrimental impact that the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade will have on both public health and human rights.

As the professional home for educators, students, researchers, healthcare practitioners, and other professionals working to advance pharmacology research, ASPET is committed to improving health for all of society.  ASPET believes the Dobbs v. Jackson decision is counter to that goal and to ASPET's guiding principles that health care decisions should be based on scientific evidence and private discussions between patients and their healthcare providers.

The removal of this basic human right, in place for nearly 50 years, will also create additional barriers for women in pharmacology and all of science to advance in their field at a time when career opportunities in science are already not equitable for all.
