The goal of the 2022 meeting is to highlight recent advances in our understanding of the roles of cellular metabolism in human diseases and discuss pharmacological advances targeting metabolism to overcome the diseases. Our intent is to provide a forum for students, postdoctoral fellows, and scientists working in this and related areas to participate and engage in productive discussions with colleagues in the field. The annual meeting of the GLC of ASPET has historically provided an excellent forum of learning and exchanging of ideas in all fields of the pharmacological sciences and is a major networking event for biomedical scientists in the Great Lakes region of the Midwest.
The tentative meeting agenda includes:
Symposium speakers comprise:
- Navdeep S. Chandel, PhD, Keynote speaker
David W. Cugell, MD, Professor of Medicine, Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Chicago
“Navigating metabolisms”
- Mary O’Riordan, PhD., The Frederick C. Neidhardt Collegiate Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at University of Michigan
- Yun Fang, PhD, Associate professor, University of Chicago
- Volkmar Weissig, PhD Sc.D. , Professor, Midwestern University

COVID-19 Protocols (as of April21, 2022)
Dear Attendees of GLC-ASPET 2022,
We are excited to see you all at the upcoming GLC ASPET conference on June 17, 2022. The pandemic has added many burdens to our lives, but we need to adapt and move forward. We have an exciting program planned that provides a chance to learn from the talks, posters, and mentoring events.
Because we are meeting in-person, we will have to follow certain rules to ensure safety and minimize viral transmission risk. Based on the current Lake Forest College protocols, we stipulate that:
- Everyone is required to wear masks throughout the event except when speaking or eating/drinking.
- COVID-19 vaccinations are required.
- A test 72 hours before arrival on campus is strongly recommended. Everyone should also do a rapid antigen COVID test (at home is suitable) 24 hours prior to the event. If anyone tests positive, then they should quarantine and not attend the meeting (see contingency section below).
- Social distancing is to be followed as much as possible and crowding avoided, for e.g., by staggering attendance at posters.
Contingencies: Individuals scheduled to give a talk but who test positive should pre-record the talk into the PowerPoint slide deck so it can be shown to the audience (no Q&A). Likewise, poster presenters who test positive should not attend but have someone else set up and take down the poster.
Thank you for your understanding.
The GLC-ASPET board.
