This year, ASPET organized a five-minute rapid-fire oral presentation called a “Datablitz” that was held Sunday through Tuesday during the Experimental Biology meeting. It was located right in the middle of the Pharmacology Poster area of the poster hall in the ASPET poster discussion lounge. So even if you hadn’t heard of the Datablitz, but you were walking around between posters during poster viewing times, chances are you might have seen it going on and hopefully you got a chance to listen to a few mini-talks.
These five-minute presentations were selected among the many amazing abstracts that were submitted for poster presentations, and helped introduce the audience to what they could expect to see during the full presentation of the poster that took place immediately afterwards. Highlighted here are just a few of the presenters from the Tuesday session, including Cameron Kieffer from Creighton University School of Medicine who spoke of the pharmacokinetic modeling of acetylcholine-induced contraction of mouse tracheas, Lisa Green from the University of Cincinnati who spoke about the identification of human antigen R (HuR) as a central mediator of cardiac fibrosis, and Corina Marziano from the University of Virginia, who spoke about how the endothelial TRPV4 channel function is impaired in pulmonary arterial hypertension. This session was chaired by Young Scientist Committee (YSC) member Amreen Mughal from North Dakota State University.
In my experience, every time I attend EB there are always sessions I miss out on because there are so many amazing scientific lectures going on under one roof, but the Datablitz was a great way to get to know summaries of some of the amazing posters which could then help guide me to specific areas of the poster hall. If you did not get a chance to attend this year, I highly encourage you to stop by during EB 2019 in Orlando.
